Hello! Welcome to Year 1
Mrs Wright will teach the class on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Mrs Monkman will teach the class every Monday.
Your PE days will be Monday & Wednesday.
Year 1 Homework Information
In Year 1, homework is designed to support the key skills children are developing in phonics, reading, spelling and early number fluency. Here is what you can expect each term:
Phonics Gaps – Half Termly
Every half term, you will receive an updated phonics gap sheet showing the sounds and Harder to Read and Spell Words (HRSWs) your child still needs to secure. Please continue to practise these at home using the games and activities we provide.
Weekly Spellings – Spelling Shed
Your child will receive weekly spellings set on Spelling Shed. Spelling Shed is an online game that links directly to the phonics and spelling lessons taught in school. Children can log in from home and practise through fun, interactive games.
Weekly ELS Reading Book
Each week, your child will bring home an ELS decodable reading book matched to their phonics level. Please ensure this book is brought to school every day in their reading pack, as we read with the children throughout the week.
Times Table Rockstars
You will also receive a login for Times Table Rockstars. In Year 1, we begin with the 10 times table, then move on to 2s, and later 5s as confidence grows. This is not a tested element in Year 1, but the app’s algorithm helps teachers see how children are progressing and which number facts they may need more support with.
