Welcome to Year 5
Mr Hughes
Welcome back to school and the first half of the Autumn term. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday over the summer and enjoyed the sunshine and got some well-earned rest.
On our webpage I will take you through the details of what we will be learning over the term as well as let you know about routines and any important events and dates you need to be aware of this half-term.
Reminders:
PE will be swimming, which will begin on Monday 7th September and continue until February half-term at Ilkley Lido. Our second PE lesson, will be on Thursdays in school and this half-term we will focus on team games.
Homework will be set each Monday, when new spellings will be given to the children. The children will also have individual logins for TT Rockstars, Spelling Shed and Accelerated Reader.

In Year 5, our Maths Curriculum follows the White Rose programme. Within each area of learning there are progressive small steps. This is the yearly overview of the areas of study.
The Year 5 objectives which will be taught throughout the year are highlighted below. The children will learn these objectives and demonstrate their knowledge across the curriculum.
In Year 5, we follow the Spelling Shed scheme of work as well as teach the statutory spellings. Listed below is the yearly overview for Spelling Shed, which will highlight the weekly spellings. The spellings will be set each week using the Spelling Shed app for practise purposes and then the children will take a short test in school.
To complement our Spelling Shed scheme of work the children will also learn the Year 5 and 6 Statutory Spellings, which are listed below. The children will also receive their own copy of these spellings.
