Welcome to Year 1
Mrs Burcher & Miss Shoesmith
Hello!
Welcome to Year 1. We are so pleased to welcome you into a brand new classroom!
Mrs Burcher will be teaching you every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Miss Shoesmith with be teaching you every Monday.
You will have to come into school through the back door which you know really well from your lunchtime playtimes last year. Every morning you will see Miss Shoesmith or Mrs Burcher to say "good morning" to. You will then walk through the cloakroom and through the outdoor 'Quad' into your new classroom. Mrs Bender will be there to greet you every morning and help you to find your morning task.
At hometime, we will gather up all of our things and make a long line to walk into the new WRAPS area. This is the old year 1 classroom and has an external door so we can see your grown ups collecting you. We will sit in this classroom as it is a much safer place to make sure every child goes to their correct grown up.
We are really looking forward to the year ahead and have an amazing curriculum lined up for you!
Please remember to bring named outdoor clothing for the wet weather and keep a pair of wellies in school.
Your PE days will be Monday & Friday.
Tens is on a Friday. This is where you will either be in an art class, an outdoor learning class or doing focussed learning with Mrs Burcher. It rotates each term so you will experience each session twice over the year.
Please continue to bring your ELS reading book to school every day.
Homework will consist of reading as much as possible but you will no longer need to log this on BoomReader. You can see updates from school on Seesaw and send any notes from home via the app if you would like to.
You will also get weekly spellings set on Spelling Shed. This is a game you can login to from home and play the games which link to the lessons you have in school. Every Monday you will play a 'test' game on the ipad in school which will let the teacher know if you need any further help with that week's spellings.
You will get a login for Times Table Rockstars so you can start to practice your 10 times table. We will look at 10s and 2s in year 1 to start with and progress to 5s. This is not tested but the algorithm on the app shows the teachers how well you are getting on and which number facts to work on.
If you pefer not to use the apps, we can give you spellings and times tables on paper.
We will get logins sent to you during the first full week in September.

Key Dates
Meet the teacher - Wednesday 10th September - join us at 3:30pm for a presentation about the year ahead and what to expect for your child in year 1.
Phonics workshop - Wednesday 17th September - 3:30pm also repeated at 4pm. Phonics information to support you with how we teach children to read and how you can help your child at home. There will be reading meetings across school on this day so you may need to go to more than one. We will repeat each meeting but please let us know if you have any difficulties and we will accomodate you as best we can!
Local area walk - Wednesday 24th September - if you haven't given permission for local area walks, please call the school office. Linked to our learning in georgaphy, we will be walking around Addingham looking at the blue plaques, following maps and drawing our own!
Family Friday 21st November - Join us in the library at 8:50am until 9:10am to read some books together and enjoy being in school with your child.
Nativity Wednesday 17th December - 9:15am and 6pm. We repeat the nativity at 6pm so that working familes and additional family members can come and watch. This is a milestone for your children and we want as many adults as possible to come and support! If your child cannot attend at 6pm for any. reason do not worry, we understand, but please let us know as soon as possible!
Come Dine With Me Thursday 15th January - come into school at 11:30am and join us for lunch! Details and how to book / pay will be on Arbor.
Sports Day Wednesday 20th May
Showcase Wednesday 3rd June- come into school at 2pm - 3pm for some activities and to look at everything we have been learning so far.
